24 Sep Abrysvo Vaccination Recommendation Changes
Please see Abrysvo update from Pfizer:
Dear PAA Member,
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) has updated its respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccination recommendations for the 2026–2027 respiratory virus season. ACOG now recommends that eligible pregnant individuals receive a single dose of the maternal RSV vaccine from September 1 through March 1.¹
Please note that ACOG and CDC recommendations currently differ, with CDC recommending vaccination through January in most of the continental U.S.2 Although ABRYSVO is widely covered, this is not a guarantee of coverage. Coverage varies based on insurance plan. Please contact health plans directly.
According to the new guidance, recent RSV disease seasons have occurred later in the spring and have become more severe, so the extension of the eligibility window will help provide additional infants with protection via maternal immunization.¹ Current data show that only 42% of eligible pregnant individuals have received the maternal RSV vaccine.1
Four actions to consider:
- Notify providers of the updated ACOG recommendations and difference with CDC recommendations.
- Update protocols as appropriate.
- Educate eligible patients, including those who may currently be earlier in their pregnancies, to be ready for vaccination during their vaccination window.
- Confirm coverage with your top payers.
